This offering from Don Sebastiani & Sons is a stout, fruit forward wine that features a few surprises in the palate profile.
The nose was of cherry, pepper, blueberry, licorice and sage. The palate was dominant cherry and blueberry, with apricot, pepper, eucalyptus and a surprising cilantro herb element - very nice. The finish is long and satisfying with notes of cherry, anise, vanilla and oak. This full-bodied wine features good acids and tannins to balance the intense fruit notes.
Once the bottle opened, the nose moved to cherry, pepper, leather and cedar. The palate was cherry, blueberry, cedar, leather, pepper and cilantro. The super sweet overall feel tones down, only showing at the front which makes for a wine that doesn't seem like a one trick pony anymore. This is a complex wine that evolves as it opens, definitely a good wine and a value! Cheers!
